Why I Love Food Holidays and Deals

I know my food holidays and I always love a good food deal. Now, you can definitely call it a bit obsessive. However, I use it as motivation, as a challenge, as a fun activity, as inspiration.

First and foremost, food is meant to be fun, enjoyed, and loved. I love that someone decided to come up with these random days and themes. Why not bring fun into everyday? Why not celebrate everyday?

Personally and professionally, I use food holidays in a multitude of ways.

One way I use it is to switch up my meals. It’s such a great way to get creative and get out of having the same things over and over again. I’ll make veggie burgers leading up to or on national veggie burger day or create a new recipe for national muffin day and get creative in the kitchen.  It's also a fun way to reduce decision fatigue when crafting your meals for the week and may even inspire you to try a new product in the grocery store.

It also helps in-terms of blog posts reach and content analytics on social media. Posting content related to a food holiday helps drive views and leads others to looking for recipes, posts, deals, inspo related to those specific food items.

In a lot of ways, national food days have also spoken to challenge me with foods I may not typically incorporate into my daily diet. A lot of times restaurants may offer freebies and I mean.. Who doesn’t love free food? Especially in this economy and as a recent graduate from graduate school. I also love to use the excuse that I shouldn’t spend money on food and this prevents me from having that excuse. You always deserve food. You always need to eat. Food is a non-negotiable item to spend money on.

It may also challenge me in ways to try a new restaurant or to have multiple sweets in a row like when National Donut Day and National Chocolate Ice Cream Day are back-to-back. And what’s better than trying these foods than when they are free or discounted.

In terms of blog content, it may also inspire me to make a healthier version of a sweet treat, or talk about my favorite ice cream shops, or how life is all about balance and there’s never a reason where you should feel the need to turn down the ice cream craving with friends on a Saturday night.

A lot of individuals also know that I like to download all the food apps even if I barely go to the place or have never been. First and foremost, I’ve lived in so many different states and none of them have the same places/grocery stores. So that’s one reason why I have so many.. But it allows me to get different reward incentives and freebies. Receiving these discounts assist in my goals with my therapist/dietitian to become more comfortable with eating food out and eating food prepared by others where I don’t have full control.

Many apps like Panera and Chick-fil-A also allow you to save your custom orders for easy thinking when you're in a rut. Additionally, I like to look at menus, nutrition (if available), and customizations available beforehand which most applications allow for.

I also do love a good mobile order at-times because it allows me to save order options, resist on changing my mind at the register and reduces any anxiety that may come with an order. It’s also very convenient and quick when you don’t have a ton of time to spend and you always know you're getting your points.

So, yes, I’ll keep using food deals and national holidays as a way to inspire me. I’ll keep downloading the food apps even if they are barely used, and I’ll keep sharing all the deals to help us all save a good dime.
